Support Services for You and Your Family

For 15 years, Greater Newburyport Ovarian Cancer Awareness (GNOCA) has endeavored to honor and improve women's lives. As a volunteer organization, our goal is to provide concrete support services for women and families affected by ovarian cancer within our community

  • Practical Daily Assistance: We can help you navigate local resources for day-to-day needs during treatment, such as meal delivery and housekeeping assistance.

  • Community Discussion Groups: Connect with other women and families who understand exactly what you are going through in a safe, supportive environment.

  • Ovations for the Cure Partnership: We work closely with the Massachusetts nonprofit Ovations for the Cure (ovationsforthecure.org). Through this partnership, we help connect you with concrete hope, deep knowledge of the disease, and vital support networks.

The "Whisper" Disease: Why Education is Our First Line of Defense

You might wonder why "Awareness" is our middle name. Ovarian cancer is often referred to as the "whisper" disease because its early signs are incredibly subtle. They are easily mistaken for common, everyday ailments.

Because there is currently no routine screening or reliable early detection test for ovarian cancer, education is our greatest weapon. We work tirelessly to educate the Greater Newburyport community because recognizing these subtle signs, and advocating for yourself with your doctor, can truly save lives.

Please listen to your body and share these signs with the women you love:

  • Bloating or Gastrointestinal Discomfort

  • Pelvic or Abdominal Pain

  • Trouble Eating or Feeling Full Quickly

  • Urinary Urgency or Frequency

  • Fatigue and/or Fever

  • Unexplained Weight Gain or Loss

  • Unexplained Changes in Bowel Habits

If these symptoms persist daily for more than two weeks, please consult your healthcare provider.

Whether you need immediate help managing daily tasks, resources for understanding your diagnosis, or simply someone to talk to who understands the journey, GNOCA is here for you.
